A little more about Turkey...

Even Turkey’s geographical positioning is fascinating. This Eurasian country stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in western Asia and Thrace (Rumelia) in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe.

Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. The Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus are to the south; the Aegean Sea and Archipelago are to the west; and the Black Sea is to the north.

The Sea of Marmara and the Turkish Straits (the Bosporus and the Dardanelles) separate Anatolia and Thrace, which are commonly reckoned to delineate the border between Asia and Europe, thus making Turkey transcontinental.

It goes without saying that Turkey's culture has an intoxicating blend of Eastern and Western traditions, earning her the name, 'the Gateway between East and West.'

Turkey today is modern in every aspect, but its traditional hospitality, local cuisines, amazing coastline and scenery, fascinating mosques and castles live on in her rich heritage and bring eternal appeal.

Food is a melting pot of influences – be sure to try the traditional Meze, where many small dishes – up to fifteen - create a veritable feast, spicy and full of Eastern influences.

Turkey’s architecture is a similar fusion of influences as diverse as Greek, Persian, Roman and Byzantine. The mosques, temples, amphitheatres, tiny traditional villages all make trips to Turkey voyages of discovery. Cultural centres such as the preserved Roman city of Ephesus or the Crusader city of Bodrum are well worth a visit if you are fortunate enough to get the chance.

Turkey is geographically split into seven regions: Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia and the Mediterranean.

Turkey’s coastal areas bordering the Mediterranean Sea have a temperate Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet and cold winters. The driest and hottest months are July and August.

Turkey offers fabulous cosmopolitan resorts offering family friendly holidaying, to die for beaches, buzzing nightlife, quaint inland villages, crumbling ruins, thriving bazaars, great shopping, thrilling watersports, mountain paragliding, wonderful food ... whatever you want from a holiday, Turkey accommodates every taste.
